Tracking animals

In Stage 2, OBSERVING, ABIDE explores how animals recover from disasters, in particular catastrophic wildfires, by following the trace of the social practices through which they engage with the damaged landscape and territory. We thus focus on the recovery phase of disasters. We aim at reconstituting animals’ experiences of recovery also by attending to their lived geographies and tracking their mobility, behaviours and place-making.

We thus use Geographical Mapping and GIS (Geographical Information Systems) to trace how animals relate to, and reoccupy a territory that has been hurt by fire, complemented with Artificial Intelligence and citizen science.
